After its debut back in 2014, the Citroen C4 Cactus shocked many people with its stand-out design features and interesting look – which automatically made it a left-field option in the crossover market.
But with the 2018 model, Citroen has toned down the design and made it slightly more mainstream – as well as updating the tech to make it more liveable and practical.
We take a look at the new C4 Cactus and see what makes it one of the most intriguing options on the market.
It’s gained a refreshed design
Unlike the original model, the 2018 C4 Cactus has had the shocking exterior design toned down so that it can appeal to more people. Even though the innovative and instantly recognisable airbumps on the side of the car are still present, they are further down the side and a more subtly integrated. The new design also includes the 3D-effect rear lights – which are very cool in the flesh – and a tweaked front end more in-line with recent Citroen's, including the latest C3 hatchback. It is a more low-key affair this time around, but the funky Cactus design features are still present.Save money on a new Citroen today
Safety technology in spades
To ensure the utmost levels of safety, the C4 Cactus comes fitted with 12 driver assistance systems – all of which combine to make the model very safe indeed. When out on the road, active safety brake, speed limit recognition and recommendation, lane departure warning, coffee break alert, driver attention alert, blind spot monitoring and Grip Control all combine to make sure the Cactus is aware of its surroundings, conditions and the driver in all situations. With the addition of park assist, a reversing camera, front fog lights with cornering function, hill start assist and keyless entry and start, this new model is very well-equipped.
Advanced comfort features
The main innovation on the new Cactus its new suspension setup, which needed 20 patents to be fully designed. The Progressive Hydraulic Cushions concept adds two hydraulic stops to each suspension unit to ensure a more comfortable ride, as well as preventing extra movement in serious impacts. Another innovation is the Advanced Comfort Seats, which are fitted with high-density foam to help with comfort when driving over long distances, as well as durability over an extended period of ownership. Overall, they aid with the driver’s posture and are available in three different funky colours.
Like other Citroens, the C4 Cactus has plenty of personalisation options
To help make sure your Cactus stands out from the crowd, you can choose from 31 exterior design options – including nine body colours and four colour packs. That includes the new Emerald Blue paint job. Five interior colour options are also available, with leather or cloth upholstery on offer. Five alloy options are also up for grabs, including two-tone and diamond cut editions.
This Cactus is more practical than ever
To offer more passenger space, Citroen has cleverly altered the cabin design to mean you are more comfortable than before. With only 2.6 metres of wheelbase to work with, the designers have sculpted the backs of the front row of seats to allow more rear legroom and the door panels for more shoulder and elbow room, as well as using an ‘Airbag in Roof’ system allowing for more legroom also. The boot is also very accommodating at 358 litres and that can be extended by a further 800 litres when the 60/40-split rear seats are folded down.Find Citroen C4 Cactus deals today
