Skoda achieves new worldwide sales record in 2018

The Czech brand sold more than 1,250,000 vehicles in the last year, setting a new marker for the VW Group-owned manufacturer

2018 saw Skoda’s most successful year for new car deliveries, with 1,253,700 vehicles being delivered to customers – an increase of 4.4 per cent

Skoda Auto chief executive officer Bernhard Maier said: ‘’In 2018, we delivered more vehicles than ever before’’. The companies market growth was in Europe, Russia and China. Skoda has managed to deliver more than one million cars to its customers for five consecutive years.

A total of 745,000 Skodas were sold in Europe last year, with Russia at 81,500 – an increase of 30.7 per cent compared to 2017 and China increasing to 341,000 up by 4.9 per cent compared to the previous year.

The Kodiaq and Karoq SUVs had the largest growth in Skoda’s line-up with 149,200 Kodiaqs delivered in 2018 – an increase of 49.3 per cent – and the Karoq selling 115,700 times in its first year on sale.

The brand’s most popular model in 2018 was the Octavia, selling 388,200 units, followed by the Rapid at 191,500 units and in third place with 190,900 units was the Fabia.

Models such as the Citigo which are only sold in Europe saw 39,200 sales; an increase of 5.5 per cent over 2017, while the China-exclusive Kamiq SUV was sold 27,900 times in its first year.

Other models on the list were the Superb at 138,100 units and the Karoq’s predecessor, the Yeti, which sold the least at 13,100 units.

The Rapid Spaceback is soon to be replaced by the eagerly awaited Scala, which is set to go on sale in mid-2019, with prices expected to start around £16,500.
