Motor shows give manufacturers the chance to show off their new and upcoming models – and took a lot of exciting prospects the the LA Auto Show this year.
The annual event held at the LA Convention Centre allowed many brands to show off their latest cars, and Mini displayed four US exclusives…
John Cooper Works Knight Edition
Based on the JCW Hatch, the Knights Edition only comes with Midnight Black paint paired to silver detailing to the roof, mirror caps and body stripes – flanked by thin red stripes. The black exterior body pack adds Piano Black door handles, filler cap and exterior trim to compliment the paintwork. To add further exclusivity, Mini fits the JCW Exhaust Flap System and chrome exhaust tips. It is currently US only, but Mini may bring it to the UK in the future.
Countryman Yin Yang Edition
With the S version of the brand’s largest vehicle used as the starting point, the Yin Yang Edition comes in either Midnight Black or Lily White with a contrast colour roof and custom stripes. Piano black detailing also features on the grille, light rings and door handles – while custom floor mats are fitted to the interior.
Clubman Starlight Edition
Using the Cooper S as the base vehicle, Mini gives the special edition Starlight Blue Metallic paint along with a silver roof, mirror caps and custom bonnet stripes. The limited-run car also comes with silver 17-inch alloy wheels and a Mini luggage trolley.
John Cooper Works International Orange Edition
Coming with a distinctive paint job, the International Orange Edition comes with, surprisingly, an orange body and is then given black decals and roof spoiler alongside grey 18-inch alloy wheels fitted with performance tyres. It also features a Bluetooth-controlled ‘Pro Exhaust’ with chrome detailing.
John Cooper Works GP
But the major international news from LA was that Mini will be launching the John Cooper Works GP in 2020, which will be based on the concept first displayed in 2017 at the Frankfurt Motor Show.
This is seen as the swansong for any Mini generation, so will come with all of the kit that the brand has to offer, as well as top level performance for a hot hatch. We’ll have to wait and see what that looks like – with first glimpses likely to be next year.
