Ford has bucked market trends to post positive retail sales figures for January 2018.
The American manufacturer saw a 2.2 per cent increase in cars sold directly from dealer forecourts compared with 2017, as well as selling 19,654 cars for the whole month — a lead of over 7,000 over next-best Vauxhall.
It was also responsible for 14.3 per cent of all retail car sales in the first month of the year, while its commercial vehicles arm saw success as well with a 14 per cent retail jump over the same period last year.
Andy Barratt, Ford of Britain chairman and managing director, said: "Ford’s strong 2018 retail start builds on the launch of the all-new Fiesta and the unrivalled strength of our vans, which appeal to the broadest cross-section of private buyers.
“This year we will launch many more exciting new vehicles, including the Fiesta Active crossover, highly anticipated Fiesta ST and new Tourneo executive shuttle – suggesting our showrooms will be busier than ever this year.”
Ford currently sells 15 passenger vehicle models in the UK, including the long-time best-selling Fiesta, the recently-refreshed EcoSport and the Mustang muscle car.
Also coming to the line-up later this year is the recently announced Ka+ Active, which takes the brand’s Ka+ city car and adds rugged styling.
