Alpina B5 Bi-Turbo Touring

Alpina opens order books for B5 Bi-Turbo Touring

Said to be the ‘world’s fastest production estate’, the 205mph Alpina B5 Bi-Turbo Touring model has a starting price of £91,000.

Alpina has opened the order books for its B5 Bi-Turbo Touring, with prices for the performance estate starting from £91,000.

Based on the BMW 5-Series Touring, the B5 Bi-Turbo is powered by a modified version of the twin-turbocharged, 4.4-litre V8 engine normally found in the BMW 750i – producing 600bhp and 800Nm of torque.

That power is sent through all four wheels – a first for the B5 range – meaning the Touring can get from 0-60mph in 3.5 seconds and on to a quoted top speed of 205mph – making it the fastest production estate in the world. It also comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Alpina works closely with BMW throughout the production and development of its vehicles, and only towards the end of building do Alpina take the models in and modify them to its specification.

Alongside the larger engine, Alpina has fitted larger brakes, specially tailored front wishbone suspension and a new intercooler system for better engine cooling.

Cosmetic changes include an altered front bumper, rear spoiler and dynamic body kit, alongside 20-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, Alpina offers an extensive range of customisation options to choose from, while fitting Nappa leather upholstery, a rear-view camera and leather steering wheel as standard. Alpina badging is also found throughout.

Customers can choose from BMW’s standard range of colours for the bodywork or they can opt for Alpina’s unique Blue and Green options, which come with Alpina decals.

Alpina GB representative Jonathan Noy said: “The B5 Bi-Turbo is built with just one powertrain and one chassis specification, which allows our engineers to calibrate every component and every control system to work perfectly together without compromise.

“Alpina’s dynamics specialists have spent month honing the chassis, not hurling it around a race track but simply driving as customers would, on roads, enjoying every mile however fast or slow. The result is a pin-sharp driving experience combined with remarkable ride quality.”

Alpina also opened orders for the B5 Bi-Turbo Saloon, which comes with the same equipment and setup. That starts at £89,000 – making it the most affordable 200mph car on the market.
